Trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan has quadrupled in five years
Trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan has quadrupled over the past five years; for the past two years, mutual trade has consistently exceeded 500 million USD. This was announced by Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy, Serik Zhumangarin, during a meeting with Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Hojamyrat Geldimyradov.
As reported on the website of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Serik Zhumangarin emphasized that Turkmenistan is an important partner for Kazakhstan in Central Asia, and the goal set by the heads of state—increasing trade turnover to 1 billion USD—remains realistic and achievable in the medium term.
Mutual trade in agricultural products was a separate topic. In the first nine months of 2025, Kazakhstan's exports to Turkmenistan totaled 221,7 million USD, primarily from industrial, agricultural, and processed products. Exports continued to grow in 2025, driven by increased supplies of flour, vegetable oils, and other processed goods.
Imports from Turkmenistan are also growing: in the first nine months of 2025, they reached 141,9 million USD. In addition to natural gas, fruits and vegetables are also supplied. In 2025, tomato shipments exceeded 30 thousand tons, becoming the second-largest commodity in Turkmenistan's import structure.
Particular attention was paid to the development of transport and logistics projects. Hojamyrat Geldimyradov announced the start of construction of a dry port on the border with Herat and invited Kazakhstan to join the project.
The parties also discussed the prospects for the formation of a Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan transit corridor, including the construction of the Herat-Turgundi railway line.
Serik Zhumangarin and Hojamyrat Geldimyradov confirmed their intention to continue working on developing transport, trade, and logistics ties, creating additional business opportunities and expanding integration between the countries, the source noted.
