International physiology-scientific clinical center
The International Scientific and Clinical Center of Physiology traces its historical path back to 1893. At that time, the place where the modern center stands was occupied by the Railway Outpatient Clinic, which in recent years was renamed the Railway Hospital. The International Scientific and Clinical Center of Physiology has been conducting scientific and research activities since the establishment of the "Ulke" Medical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan on October 1, 1962. Initially, the scientific and research activities of the institute studied the psychophysiological effect of the high temperature of the arid natural and climatic conditions of our country on the human body, the stress state of multiple influencing factors, and the specific effects associated with changes in the body's thermoregulation. An example of this is the interdepartmental expedition "Man and the Desert", which went on foot through the Karakum Desert in 1984 in order to verify the theoretical principles. Despite the fact that the establishment of the "Ulke" Medical Institute made a great contribution to the development of physiological science, we can conclude that the science of physiology underwent a new and more extensive transformation after the independence of our Fatherland Turkmenistan and the adoption of the "Health" State Program, which was the main guiding principle in all areas of healthcare. The material, technical, scientific and personnel resources of the Institute of Physiology, created in the 90s of the last century, helped to implement the tasks set by identifying the mechanisms of the complex impact of the conditions of the Arid Zone on the body of humans and animals, as well as developing methods for reducing the impact of adverse environmental conditions.
In order to successfully implement the State Program “Health”, based on the order of the Ministry of Health and Pharmaceutical Industry of Turkmenistan dated March 13, 1998 No. 61, the Railway Hospital was merged with the Institute of Physiology of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan to create the Central Hospital of Physiology with a scientific and clinical center of the Ministry of Health and Pharmaceutical Industry of Turkmenistan.
The change in the structure of the Physiology Scientific and Clinical Center, which took place at an important stage for the development of this scientific medicine, revealed such issues as conducting scientific research on the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of human diseases in the arid zone, and introducing the results of scientific research into practical medicine and production. The directions of scientific research conducted by the Physiology Scientific and Clinical Center during this period were: studying the changes that occur in the body before the disease occurs under the influence of the environment by the physiology and clinic and, based on the results obtained, proposing measures to reduce the risk of disease and prevent it; conducting scientific research aimed at predicting human health before the disease occurs and its activity during the period of labor, as well as preventing occupational diseases; was to study the healing properties of local plants and their effects on the physiological systems of the body.
Scientists of the Scientific-Clinical Physiology Center, which is based on a scientific-clinical foundation, have expanded the scope of their research and began to study the characteristics of the transition of pathological conditions in the conditions of Turkmenistan and the influence of natural climate and ecology. Scientists-physiologists have the opportunity to study the changes that occur in the body before the onset of illness due to the influence of the environment, to develop new methods that reduce the risk of developing the disease by taking preventive measures based on the results obtained, to prepare new medicinal products from local medicinal plants and to introduce their results into practical medicine.
In accordance with the tasks of the State Program “Health”, a number of scientific-research works have been carried out in the Hospital of the Scientific-Clinical Physiology Center on the protection and strengthening of people's health in various areas of physiological science in local climatic conditions. A number of scientific-research works have been carried out in the Scientific Center to determine the therapeutic effect and healing properties of ointments made from medicinal herbs and fruits. A chemical analysis of medicinal plants growing in Turkmenistan, such as chupar, alkar and chervil, was carried out, and coumarins, flavonoids, chuparda-coumarins, polysaccharides and complex esters, alkarflavonoids and esters were revealed in the composition of chervil. The listed medicinal plants have been shown to increase the body's heat tolerance, regulate heart function, lower blood pressure, and enhance the body's antioxidant defense and resistance in acute heart attacks. For the first time, the physiological and pharmacological effects of our national pride, melon products, namely juice and oil from its seeds, on the body were studied. Experimental studies have revealed that melon seed oil has a high antioxidant effect and lowers cholesterol in the blood. It was found that melon seed oil has a strong wound healing ability in models of artificially created cuts and burns, and its effect is comparable to the effect of sea buckthorn oil, widely used in medicine. As a result of the conducted research, it has been scientifically proven that melon juice and oil have a high nutritional and emollient effect.
