Educational and Scientific Center for Maternal and Child Health of the State Medical University of Turkmenistan named after M.Garryyev
Under the wise leadership of our esteemed President, maternal and child health and disease prevention are one of the main directions of the healthcare system. The consistent introduction of the most advanced healthcare institutions and the introduction of innovative technologies into them creates ample opportunities for treating diseases in a short time and preventing disability.
The educational and scientific center for maternal and child health of the Myrat Garryyev State Medical University of Turkmenistan was founded on August 1, 2015. The center has 15 specialized departments operating in the areas of pediatrics, perinatology, surgery and neurology, providing high-quality results in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. In our country, within the framework of the State Health Program, the center’s specialists, with the participation of international organizations, successfully implement a number of programs on maternal and child health issues.
These programs are aimed at preventing and effectively treating diseases and reducing the length of inpatient hospitalization. According to the Regionalization Program for Perinatal Care in the country, the center was designated as the third “A” level of care, where low-birth-weight newborns with low and extremely low body weight and children with various severe or rare diseases are treated. As well as pregnant women with complicated pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period and women with gynecological diseases, while maintaining reproductive function. It uses advanced treatment methods and employs qualified specialists with many years of experience who, using an individual approach, carefully treat each patient. They participate in scientific conferences and seminars and constantly improve their professional level.
Treatment and diagnostic activities at the center are carried out in accordance with the latest world achievements in science and practice, which is necessary for a qualitative change in medicine, helping to reduce the incidence of children and women, as well as complications of pregnancy and childbirth.
“Management of low birth weight infants and improving the quality of their adaptive state” is the main scientific direction of the Educational and Scientific Center for Maternal and Child Health.
The consultative and diagnostic department of the center is equipped with the latest generation equipment from world leaders in the medical technology market, related to radiography, neurosonography, ultrasound, electrocardiography, echocardiodopplerography, fibrogastroduodenoscopy and other types to fully identify changes occurring in the patient’s body. And this is one of the necessary conditions for making an accurate diagnosis and carrying out sufficient and adequate treatment measures. Outpatient consultations are also provided for visiting patients.
The Neonatal Pathology Department provides high-quality care to reduce morbidity and strengthen the viability of children.
The center carries out a lot of work in accordance with important National programs and Strategies “Safe Motherhood”, “Primary Resuscitation of Newborns”, “Protection and Support of Breastfeeding”, “Early Child Development and Preparing for School”, “Healthy Mother – Healthy Child – Healthy Future”, which are aimed at raising a healthy, strong young generation.
In the methodological room “Early Child Development and Early Intervention”, advisory work is carried out for parents of children and rehabilitation work is carried out with children.
The center has surgical departments I and II. In the system of pediatric surgery, with the help of advanced innovative technologies, the identification and elimination of foreign bodies in the esophagus and respiratory tract, cardiomyotomy for achalasia of the esophagus, fundoplication operations, bougienage for laryngeal stenosis, and stenting are carried out. The implementation of methods of high-quality surgical care for pulmonary echinococcosis and chronic pulmonary diseases, and for various forms of diaphragmatic hernia has been established. In case of diseases of the abdominal cavity, acute appendicitis, the occurrence of complications of various forms (peritonitis, intestinal obstruction, intussusception), when there is a need for urgent care, emergency surgical operations are performed in a timely manner and with high quality. In case of hepatic and other localizations, combined forms of echinococcosis, a simultaneous operation of echinococcectomy is organized.
For congenital anorectal anomalies, all operations (colostomy, perineal and abdominal-perineal operations, restorative rehabilitation surgical methods) are carried out at a high level.
For various forms of contractures in the soft tissues and skeletal system, various types of keloids, diseases such as lipoma, hemangioma, lymphoma, chronic osteomyelitis and other diseases of the skeletal system, purulent arthritis, innovative surgical treatment methods contribute to the treatment of the patient in a short period.
The center's pediatric system provides care to children from the first days of life to 14 years. They are served by the department of pathology of newborns, the department of children under one year old, pulmonology and somatics. The center accepts children with various diseases who arrive from different regions of our country. In the pathology departments of newborns and children under one year of age, experienced doctors, based on evidence-based medicine of the European Standard and recommendations, but taking into account the experience of generations, treat diseases characteristic of infancy, congenital diseases and conditions associated with childbirth, acute and non-infectious diseases of children under the age of one year. In the pulmonology department, modern research and appropriate treatment of various diseases of the respiratory system are carried out; in the somatic department, various chronic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract are treated.
The Department of Pediatric Neurology records and treats patients with diseases of the nervous system. Hospitalized patients receive drug therapy, physical therapy, massage, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. In the early rehabilitation room, taking into account various forms of diseases, patients are given rehabilitation measures and therapeutic exercises. Patients with neurological pathology in other departments receive additional treatment based on consultations with a neurologist.
The departments conduct scientific work on current problems of childhood morbidity; registers of chronic diseases have been created (on cerebral palsy, spinal muscular atrophy, congenital heart defects and bronchial asthma). Such children are monitored regularly.
The Department of Pathology of Pregnant Women and Gynecology carries out therapeutic and preventive measures to maintain pregnancy and prevent possible complications. In addition, diagnosis and treatment of various extragenital diseases, preparation for natural and surgical childbirth are carried out at a high level. Pregnancy management and therapeutic measures are carried out according to clinical protocols and recommendations approved by the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan. In the departments, researchers and specialists of the department widely carry out research activities.
In the gynecological department, on a planned and emergency basis, conservative treatment of patients and surgical interventions are carried out in full, such as extirpation and amputation of the uterus, operations on the fallopian tubes, uterine tubectomy, plastic surgery, removal of formations in the ovaries, reconstructive operations (anterior and posterior colpoperineoplasty), ventrofixation of the uterus. Modern laparoscopic operations are also performed using innovative technologies: tubectomy, ovarian coagulation, ovarian resection, cystectomy, tubal ligation, as well as treatment of peritoneal factor infertility. Assistance is provided in restoring reproductive health.
In the physiotherapy department of the center, patients receiving pediatric, surgical, and gynecological treatment undergo procedures using various medications, mud using electrophoresis, ultrasound, and ozokerite. And also, without the use of drugs, UHF, magnet, massage. In the physiotherapy room and wards, individual plans are drawn up for each patient. Treatment of patients with chronic diseases is carried out in stages.
The center actively carries out research activities in various areas of the maternal and child health care system. Training sessions are conducted for young specialists to improve their skills, modern methods and technologies of training are effectively used. Teachers-mentors, professors of the Myrat Garryyev State Medical University of Turkmenistan advise patients receiving treatment in different departments of the center, give recommendations in the treatment of children and women with severe, complex diseases, directly contribute to medical activities and scientific work.
The main purpose of all the center’s activities is aimed at protecting the health of mothers and children, since the future and happiness of our country begins with a healthy mother and a healthy child.
