Directorate of Infectious Diseases Centers

In Turkmenistan, the service of combating and preventing infectious diseases is considered one of the most important directions of health care. With the adoption of national programs for the prevention of infectious diseases, epidemiological indicators, ie disease, are prevented. Strengthening the prevention of tuberculosis and other infectious diseases in the country is one of the main tasks of the Infectious Disease Centers Directorate. To overcome infectious diseases in the Directorate, highly qualified doctors work tirelessly to protect the health of the citizens using the advances of the modern healthcare system.

The administration of Infectious Diseases Centers Directorate, opened in 2010, has been serving our people day and night at a high level for several years. The directorate includes a 105-bed Central Dermatology and Venereology Hospital with an outpatient dispensary department, a 60-bed Tuberculosis Treatment and Prevention Center, a National AIDS Prevention Center, a 260-bed Center for the Treatment and Prevention of Infectious Diseases, a centralized laboratory, and a Blood Center. In addition, four departments of the Myrat Garryyev State Medical University of Turkmenistan, i.e. departments of infectious diseases and epidemiology, adults and children, tuberculosis and dermato-venereology, operate at the foundation of the administration, and students are educated at a high level.

Speaking separately about each of the centers that are part of the directorate, the Infectious disease treatment-prevention center carries out the work of diagnosing, placing the patients in the appropriate departments, and providing consultation.

The center operates departments of intestinal infections of children and adults, viral hepatitis, respiratory diseases, angina and acute respiratory infections, particularly dangerous infectious diseases. Here, patients undergo all necessary examinations and are given appropriate treatment. The treatment units also have specially equipped intensive care units for extra critical patients.

In recent years, advances in the treatment of parenteral hepatitis have been made. State-of-the-art drugs for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C are being procured through joint funding agreements with the United Nations Development Program. This greatly contributes to the treatment and prevention of hepatitis C virus patients in our country.

A centralized laboratory works to detect infectious diseases at an early stage, to prevent the spread of disease, and to provide high-quality laboratory care to the public. Laboratory serves patients who are treated under dispensary supervision and outpatients 24 hours a day in the central institutions under the supervision of the Infectious Diseases Centers Directorate.

In the country, great attention is paid to the issue of uninterrupted supply of blood and its products to medical institutions when necessary. In this regard, the Blood Center, which meets world standards, is of great importance within the Infectious Diseases Centers Directorate. The blood center is equipped with modern, state-of-the-art equipment and there are two operating rooms for the collection of blood and blood components from donors, in which it is possible to collect blood and its components from 14 donors at the same time.

In order to avoid complications when blood or blood components are given, in order to prepare blood or its components that meet world standards, together with the Development Program of the United Nations, work is being carried out on the necessary amount of blood collection centers, consumables, and reagents.

One of the main directions of the "Saglyk (Health)" State Program is to prevent the spread of AIDS in Turkmenistan. The National AIDS Prevention Center, which is part of the Directorate, plays a major role in this area. Thus, the works are carried out by 6 centers in Turkmenistan, National AIDS Prevention Center of Ashgabat and 5 provincial centers. The mission of the centers is to carry out disease prevention activities among the population and promote healthy lifestyle.

At the Central Dermatology and Venereology Hospital, as the name suggests, patients with various skin diseases are treated at a high level. After the patients have undergone appropriate tests and the outcome of the disease has been confirmed, they are treated in combination with medicines produced in Turkmenistan and medicinal herbs recommended in the multi-volume scientific encyclopedic book of our Hero Arkadag entitled "Medicinal plants of Turkmenistan". As the saying goes, "The skin is the mirror of the inner organs" patients undergoing treatment are also monitored by an internal medicine and dental practitioner. In addition to medicines, physiotherapy methods, bottled therapeutic water "Berzengi", mud from the volcano and Mollagara resort are used in the treatment of many skin diseases and post-traumatic disorders.

In the Directorate's Tuberculosis Treatment-Prevention Center, favorable conditions have been created for carrying out scientific research, and the departments of the center are equipped with the most modern equipment. In the scientific and clinical department of the center, together with the Department of Tuberculosis of the Myrat Garryyev State Medical University of Turkmenistan, scientific research works are carried out, which are considered important for our time.

In order to successfully implement the "Fight against tuberculosis National Program", collaborates with international organizations working on tuberculosis, including the World Health Organization, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the United Nations Development Program, and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Recognizing the ongoing efforts of the country to ensure the uninterrupted supply of certified tuberculosis diagnostic and treatment materials to the national treasury, gave Turkmenistan the status of "Leader in effective planning of procurement of anti- tuberculosis drugs". It is worth noting that there are no interruptions in the procurement of anti-tuberculosis drugs in the country, that all orders are made on time, and that there is always a reserve of drugs. In addition, it was recognized by the Global Fund that Turkmenistan is the only country that registers all anti-tuberculosis drugs imported into the country by the State Registration and Fraud Control Center of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry.

Today, the incidence of tuberculosis in our country is decreasing every year. In the center, research activities are carried out in accordance with international standards, and achievements, new diagnostic and therapeutic methods are implemented in practical medical practice, preventive measures against tuberculosis are carried out regularly. This will contribute to the further reduction and elimination of tuberculosis disease in the country.
