Sanatorium «Archman»
The «Archman» Sanatorium is located in the Baherden District of the Ahal Region, 130 kilometers west of Ashgabat, at the foot of the «Degirmendag» mountain in the Kopetdag Mountains, at an altitude of 157 meters above sea level. The health resort opened in 1915 and began receiving its first patients. In 2009, a new building for the «Archman» Sanatorium with 420 places was constructed, supplementing the previously existing reconstructed buildings with 500 places, and it has now become a 920-bed sanatorium meeting international standards.
The low-mineralized healing water of the resort emerges naturally as a spring. The healing water of «Archman» is unique in the country and, according to its chemical composition, belongs to the group of weakly alkaline sulfur-chloride-bicarbonate, sodium-calcium-magnesium waters. The water temperature is 28.2-28.5 degrees Celsius throughout the year. This healing water is widely used for drinking, bathing, and intestinal rinsing. It normalizes the functioning of the human organs.
Although the «Archman» Sanatorium is primarily considered a facility for treating digestive system disorders, today it provides all the necessary conditions for treating skin diseases, nervous system disorders, and female reproductive organ conditions. The procedural rooms are fully equipped with modern medical equipment.
The health resort includes two diagnostic and treatment buildings. These buildings feature two ultrasound rooms, an ECG room, an endoscopy room, an X-ray room, physiotherapy procedure rooms, a health and fitness room (ozokerite, aeroionotherapy), rooms for volcanic mud facial applications, gum applications, and an acupuncture room.
The «Archman» Sanatorium treats diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, bile ducts, musculoskeletal system, peripheral nervous system, skin, and gynecological conditions. It primarily addresses chronic inflammation of the esophagus, chronic gastric diseases (gastritis), diseases of the gallbladder and bile ducts, their dyskinesias, hepatitis, colitis, enterocolitis, external and internal hemorrhoids, peptic ulcer disease of the stomach and duodenum during remission, cardiac disorders (cardiac neuroses), initial atherosclerosis, first-degree hypertension (in the absence of symptoms of circulatory disorders of the heart and brain), various types of rheumatism (except tuberculosis), joint diseases (without edema), spine and joint pain due to metabolic disorders (arthritis), osteoarthritis, migraines, thoracic radiculitis, chronic inflammation of the nervous system, mild and moderate obesity, climacteric disorders, neurodermatitis, chronic urticaria, lichen planus, psoriasis, parapsoriasis, uterine and associated chronic diseases, and menstrual cycle disorders.
Treatment at the resort is limited to patients with lung diseases, kidney diseases, insulin-dependent diabetes, vitiligo, as well as during exacerbations of the above-mentioned conditions, gallstone disease, and new malignant tumors.
At the sanatorium, diseases are treated comprehensively. In addition to procedures, guests are offered herbal teas and infusions.
Gynecological services for women at the «Archman» sanatorium are provided at a high level. Sanatorium treatment methods prevent cases of infertility in women. One of the main causes of infertility is chronic inflammation of the reproductive organs. Gynecological diseases, that is, diseases of the female reproductive organs, are often found among girls and women who come to the resort for rest and treatment of digestive diseases (primarily chronic gastritis, chronic cholecystopancreatitis).
These conditions include primary and secondary genital amenorrhea (absence of menstruation) and infertility. At the sanatorium, women undergo gynecological examination as prescribed (in cases of previously diagnosed gynecological conditions) or by choice, if they wish to monitor their health status. After comprehensive diagnostics, patients are offered multifaceted treatment methods. Balneotherapy (sulfur-hydrogen baths), mineral water flushing, mud therapy, and electrotherapy contribute to reducing diseases of the reproductive organs, regularizing menstrual cycles, alleviating pelvic pain, and restoring female fertility. Women wishing to undergo gynecological treatment at the «Archman» sanatorium should consult with a gynecologist at their local Health Center before arriving at the resort.
Women with the following conditions are not recommended to use baths, mud applications, and physiotherapy during sanatorium treatment:
• Acute inflammation of the reproductive organs;
• Uterine fibroids with bleeding;
• Suspicion of malignant tumors or diagnosed malignant tumors;
• Undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy;
• Preparing for surgical treatment;
• Female conditions caused by hormonal disorders (uterine fibroids, endometriosis, tumors (cysts) of the appendages of the uterus, and diagnosed mastopathy);
• Active tuberculosis.
Women with menstrual cycle irregularities are advised to consult an endocrinologist at their place of residence before seeking gynecological treatment. It's important for these women to check hormone levels, especially estrogen, in their blood, as the appropriate treatment method at the sanatorium depends on estrogen levels.
All gynecological procedures (except baths) at the sanatorium are conducted indoors in the relaxation building, away from outdoor exposure.
Women suffering from infertility are recommended to undergo special examinations (metro-salpingography) after sanatorium treatment. Thus, it can be said that sanatorium treatment is highly effective for chronic inflammations of the reproductive organs.
Mineral waters of the resort help restore the balance of excitatory and inhibitory processes in the cerebral cortex, enhance the activity of the gallbladder, and prevent the accumulation of bile in the gallbladder and the formation of stones. They can also displace a gallstone but do not dissolve, fragment, or expel it.
There are also contraindications to using natural sanatorium water, i.e., mineral water containing hydrogen sulfide and other trace elements, for drinking, bathing, and intestinal lavage. Contraindications include: exacerbation periods of musculoskeletal, nervous, dermatological systems, and female reproductive organs; tuberculosis; certain types of diabetes; malignant tumors; infectious diseases; internal and external bleeding; and pregnancy.
In addition to procedural rooms, the sanatorium provides rooms for leisure and public events to enrich the cultural leisure of its guests. These facilities include a restaurant with a specialized dietary menu curated by a dietitian, a shop, library, internet lounge, conference hall, tennis and billiards rooms, as well as a phyto-bar where visitors can experience the unique healing properties of medicinal herbs from Turkmenistan. The phyto-bar offers various aromatic herbal teas made from medicinal plants native to our country, as described in the multi-volume scientific encyclopedia «Medicinal Plants of Turkmenistan» authored by the National Leader of the Turkmen People, and in the book «Tea – Medicine and Inspiration». This enhances the effectiveness of spa and resort treatments.
The construction of new medical-diagnostic and entertainment facilities at the sanatorium «Archman», as well as the reconstruction of existing buildings, have led to an increase in the number of citizens coming here for rest and treatment. The health resort offers its services year-round to our compatriots and foreign citizens for leisure and health recovery.
To avail of health recovery services at the resorts in our country, individuals must have their passport for identification purposes, along with a health resort card issued by their local clinic and approved by the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry.
